  • The solubility of sodium nitrate in water and ethanol solutions was determined by equilibrating crystals and solution in a solubility cell in the temperature range 20 to 50oC at different weight percents. The solubility data was compared to results from literature which are quite outdated and was also used for modelling with the electrolyte non-random two-liquid (NRTL) equation. The model was found to correlate the solubility data satisfactorily. It was also observed by optical microscopy that there was no change in crystal habit of sodium nitrate in the water and ethanol mixtures.
