Study effect of Colocasia Esculenta leaf as electrolyte to hydrogen production on electrochemical reaction by using electrochemical reactor

  • The existing energy carrier depletion and aggravating environmental situation have resulted in awareness of the need of a transition to sustainable and environmentally friendly hydrogen power engineering. One of techniques hydrogen production is electrolysis of water. Electrolysis of pure water is very slow and it is sped up dramatically by adding an electrolyte. It is known that the most perfect electrolyzers consume 4 kWh of electric energy for production of one cubic metre of hydrogen from water. Using electrolyte to boost formation speed of hydrogen become considerable concern, it will influence speed of electrolysis reaction even increasing of hydrogen formation. Utilization Colocasia Esculenta leaf as solute in electrolyte solution was used in this research. There are composition of Colocasia Esculenta leaf would boost up electrolysis of water reaction speed, this electrolyte boost up formation and conversion of hydrogen, it would also reduce electric energy in comparison with common electrolyte such as a salt, an acid or a base. This research was focused on solute and water ratio, electrode selection and distance between electrode, this research was done in electrochemical reactor and using pair of specific electrode.
